Back In The Saddle 1

Hey all,

I know I said my hiatus would be “brief” back in July. Well, it’s now November, and I’m still working on this crazy novel. Almost all feedback from my critique group is in. The rough draft is done. I’m in the middle of edits right now to polish things up and add to the content of the novel that I didn’t create in the first run-through of the writing process.

Since you last heard from me, things in my life have changed. I’ve resigned as webmaster for a non-profit to try and collect more free time in my life.

Some of that free time has been placed into attending Taekwondo lessons with my son. We’ve been going for about 3 months now, and I’m down 20 pounds from when we started. That’s why I’m going: the physical fitness. I want my son in the classes to learn self defense and self confidence. He’s coming along quite well in both of those areas.

This might be burying the lead, but my debut novel has also come out! The release date was October 27th. This has been consuming my life lately as I try to figure out (and budget for) bookmarks, book plates, an ecommerce solution for my web site to sell signed books, packing material for shipping said books, obtaining a PO box (so random folks on the Internet who order my book won’t get their hands on my HOME address), buying books to sign/sell, attempting to set up book signings, etc. etc. etc…. Yeah. It’s been a crazy time the past few weeks. You can find out more about the launch of my debut novel over at my author web site.

I’ve also finished the final touches on my home brew RPG system. Now that I have something “done” and ready to put out into the world, I’m not quite sure what the next steps are…. Self pub? Try and find a publisher? I’m not quite a big enough name for a Kickstarter, nor do I have the time/energy to launch into something like that….. Right now, I’m just mulling over things to see what I want to do with it next.

Since I’m technically not slinging words at the moment (except for my monthly contribution to Gnome Stew and the occasional writing article), I’m going to try and get back in the saddle here and start consuming more RPG goodies. I’ll admit that I’ve had the itch to do so over the past few weeks, but I knew I couldn’t do things properly. This meant waiting until this week to get things rolling.

I appreciate everyone’s patience with me, and I hope most of you still have this site in your RSS feeds.

I hope everyone has been well in my absence, and we’ll see what the RPG blogosphere has to bring to me this week.

Welcome back, JT! Best of luck with the first novel and with the book that’s been consuming so much of your attention. I’m sure no-one will begrudge the time spent with your son, and congrats on the weight-loss side benefit 🙂
